IST 201 - Introduction to Networks

This course covers the architecture, structure, functions and components of the Internet and other computer networks. Students achieve a basic understanding of how network operate and how to build simple local area networks (LAN), perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement Internet Protocol (IP). This is the first of four courses that use the Cisco CCNA exam objectives as a framework to teach networking, troubleshooting, cybersecurity, and IT administration concepts and skills using hands-on, simulated, and virtual activities, as well as, traditional classroom interactions.
Prerequisite(s): Must meet all entrance requirements for the NSM curriculum; MAT 155 or equivalent GPA or placement score; ENG 155 or equivalent GPA or placement score
